Did yet another way to draw the frame. Drew it like I was doing scanlines. It really helped cement the color differences in my head.
Then, I went back over the frames to consolidate and was surprised to find errors quickly and easily.
Huge lessons in sprite art. Time to return to my Unity pixel art game for a bit.
